Studio Friday: one page
Kindly click to enLARGE. This is one page of my sketchbook. One rainy night, I came across a letter from a close friend way back in high school. She is a very nice and sweet person. We have not seen each other for a long time now but we still get in touch once in a while. There was one incident during our senior year, where she got jealous(she won’t admit it actually he he he …)because I came to know and befriended a new girl in school and, I helped her with some things and we really did not stop talking and telling stories to each other. Before I knew it, my friend was gone. I call this illustration yellow umbrella because my friend won’t call her name but she would always teased me and called her-that girl with the yellow umbrella.
Some of my drawings have stories actually but, sadly nowadays ---there nothing's new in my sketchbook because I am painting in canvass or either I am painting digitally.

I can really identify with this story. I had a similar thing happen between myself and a friend, senior yr. in high school. The yellow umbrella brought to mind a song by Herman's Hermmits about falling in love under an umbrella. (Not the same scenario, of course, but it still reminded me:)

such a sweet picture!
what a fun story to go with your sketch book image! I too work more on finished paintings rather than sketching an idea first---the joy of working in pastel---I can lightly draw in my composition & then paint with pastel & finish quickly, rather than start with a sketch, transfer the sketch, then paint (my watercolor technique).
Wow...pretty powerful story from this sweet little sketch! Very cool Isay!
